Essential Job Functions

  • Affords assistance in collecting patient data including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
  • Enters collected data, such as vital signs and implements the plan of care as directed by the Provider.
  • Enacts protocols/standing orders based on patient complaints or reasons for visit.
  • Executes 12-lead EKGs, selected respiratory care procedures, and other assigned patient care for which adequate training and demonstrated competencies exist.
  • Administers oral and parenteral medications, including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests, and treatments, according to specified policies and procedures and medical assisting standards, under the direction of supervising physicians.
  • Completes prior authorizations for medications as needed and communicates physician prescriptions to pharmacies by phone and fax as needed.
  • Maintains appointment bookings, prioritizing patients in emergency situations and maintaining a timely flow of patients.
  • Accurately documents all medical assistant procedures in the medical record.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards by obtaining all necessary prior authorizations or pre-certifications for patients.
  • Communicates patient conditions, inquiries, and concerns to nursing staff and physicians to facilitate appropriate triaging and response.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Prior to employment, certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is required from one of the following organizations: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
  • Licensure/Certification/Listing Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
  • Completion of a medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience is preferred.
