About the role

The Healthy Lifestyles Director intentionally welcomes, connects, and supports members while directing health and wellness promotion, retention, and program activities, including Active Older Adults programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage branch health and wellness programs in compliance with all Association standards and safety procedures.
  • Establish relationships with public health, physician, payer communities, and other referral networks to enhance awareness of and referrals to YMCA’s Evidence-Based Programs.
  • Serve as a liaison, ambassador, and advocate for YMCA’s Evidence-Based Programs within public health, physician, and payer communities.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all health and wellness program staff and volunteers; evaluate staff regularly to ensure program quality and consistency.
  • Manage department budget to ensure financial stability.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of staff certifications.
  • Employ strategies to increase member engagement and retention.
  • Create and schedule all wellness programming.
  • Perform duties of a fitness instructor and personal trainer as needed.
  • Plan, develop, promote, and implement programs for active older adults that foster physical, mental, and social health.
  • Create an annual schedule of events for active older adults, including lunch and learns, mall walks, senior health fair, holiday events, and monthly bus trips.
  • Develop, produce, and disseminate program information to promote health and wellness to the public and current members.
  • Provide data and reports on assigned programs to support branch and Association planning.
  • Maintain fitness equipment and facilities, including purchasing recommendations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Maintain relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners; provide staff leadership for the annual fundraising campaign and other committees as assigned.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, or equivalent, or a minimum of two years of experience in the health/fitness field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required certifications in group exercise and personal training, or ability to obtain these within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Two or more years of supervisory and staff recruitment experience in health and wellness preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the recruitment, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers preferred.
  • Ability to support the training of fitness staff, including group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and wellness coaches.
  • Experience in planning and implementing activities with senior adults preferred.
  • Must obtain and remain compliant with all certifications and standards assigned by YMCA of the USA and the AMA YMCA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in operating standard office and computer equipment, data management, and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required.
