About the role

The Health Care Technician (HCT) supports the licensed nursing staff by performing personal care and hygiene tasks for assigned patients. They also facilitate communication between various departments and serve as a public relations liaison.

Responsibilities

• Maintain unit supplies to ensure smooth unit function, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
• Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN) and ensure accurate documentation.
• Demonstrate competency in psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist, including measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and intake and output recording.
• Assist with activities of daily living for patients.
• Prepare patients for transportation and assist in responding to emergencies involving seizures.
• Aid in communication by updating the whiteboard and conducting meaningful hourly rounding.
• Float within the hospital to perform additional duties as needed.
• Participate as a sitter for patients who require it.
• Contribute to the healthcare team to enhance the unit's quality of care.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma/GED
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• One semester of nursing clinical experience
• Worked as a CNA within the past 24 months
• Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
• Relevant medical military training
• Completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)

The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour.
