About the role

The Healthcare Support Specialist (HSS) plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by facilitating visits, coordinating schedules, and managing patient materials.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient visits by coordinating complex appointment schedules and daily activities of the care providers.
  • Prepare patients, complete pre-examination record information, and manage the flow of patient materials.
  • Obtain or verify patient demographics, medical insurance information, and advise patients on scheduling delays or changes.
  • Schedule and reschedule tests/consults from various sources.
  • Process ABN forms, insurance verification, and patient appointment communications.
  • Assist with patient visit facilitation, including restroom and clothing change assistance, apparatus placement, IV removal, and proceduralist support.
  • Navigate through multiple electronic applications and devices, medical equipment, and assist patients in using kiosks.
  • Support access and navigation activities, including greeting patients and visitors, verifying appointments, and following designated scripts and process flows.
  • Engage in security and multidisciplinary team member interactions as needed.
  • Ensure policy enforcement and monitor patient and visitor flow within the building.
  • Achieve effective communication, excellent customer service, and conflict de-escalation skills.
  • Push/pull up to 75 pounds on occasion.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED and minimum two years' customer service experience in an environment requiring multi-tasking.
  • Associate's Degree in a healthcare related field preferred.
  • Coursework in Medical Terminology within six months of employment.
  • Ability to work independently, be goal-directed, and have strong organizational skills.
  • Effective multitasking and communication skills, including verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations, remain calm under stress, and manage emotional situations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required in some areas.
