Florida International University (FIU) is a leading public research university located in Miami. The Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (HSOS) plays a crucial role in supporting simulation activities.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical and operational support for simulation activities, including setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hospital-grade equipment and simulation technology.
• Collaborates with simulation educators, faculty, and learners, offering guidance and assistance in the effective use of simulation resources.
• Contributes to the efficient operation of the simulation center through tasks such as maintenance scheduling, inventory management, and procurement.
• Supports the development, setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation-based learning experiences.
• Offers expertise and guidance to ensure the fidelity and integrity of scenarios.
• Participates in debriefing sessions and provides constructive feedback to learners.
• Manages and maintains inventory levels of supplies and equipment to meet the needs of simulation scenarios.
• Selects appropriate modalities of simulation to meet learning objectives and learner needs.
• Makes recommendations for the purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials required for simulation.
• Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory agency policies.
• Attends vendor training sessions, conferences, etc., to stay updated on simulation best practices.
• Operates and troubleshoots hospital equipment used in simulation environments.
• Controls and maintains patient simulators during scenario-based training sessions.
• Troubleshoots issues with manikins and equipment, mobilizing resources as needed.
• Coordinates with Center Administration to ensure simulation equipment and hospital-type equipment for mobile simulation/in-situ simulation is always operational.
• Maintains awareness of scheduling in relation to availability of physical and technical resources for learners.
• Acts as a voice of manikin during scenarios as needed.
• Conducts tours as requested for internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of relevant experience, or Master's degree.
• Desired qualifications include a degree in computer science or health-related field, Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), previous knowledge or work experience in a clinical simulation environment, knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology, and experience working with audio/visual equipment.
