Healthcare Interior Designer

The Interior Designer – Healthcare will help lead and mentor colleagues within the interior design team and work collaboratively with architectural teams to conceptualize, develop, and document varying aspects of interior design, including space planning, interior architecture, materials and finishes, specifications, FFE, and signage. This role focuses on projects in the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

• For smaller projects where Interior Design is the prime consultant, manage projects and schedules, including client and consultant contract negotiations, project set-up, invoicing, and staff scheduling.
• Participate in program development and pre-design efforts, including workshop discussions to ascertain client goals and project outcomes.
• Oversee and lead teams in developing space planning, block planning, adjacency diagrams, and interior design concepts through sketches, digital/BIM models, and other visual formats.
• Understand and apply BIM technologies for three-dimensional modeling of interiors and components.
• Participate in design critiques and coordinate with outside consultants to ensure cohesive drawing sets.
• Ensure designs comply with building codes, sustainability requirements (e.g., LEED), and accessibility guidelines.
• Evaluate and select interior systems, materials, finishes, and fixtures while coordinating with building systems to align with design intent and sustainable principles.
• Develop interior designs within cost parameters and maintain design intent through documentation and construction.
• Complete FFE scope tasks from design through bid, coordinating with client and project needs.
• Adhere to Stantec’s QA/QC processes, including design reviews and internal/external project audits.
• Participate in business development activities, project interviews, and lead project proposals or RFP responses.
• Mentor and collaborate with colleagues while demonstrating a commitment to the profession and firm.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge and application of accessibility codes and building codes.
• Understanding of all phases of architectural document production through construction administration, including the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously, create project plans, and meet profitability goals.
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to manage team deliverables to meet client expectations.
• Proficiency in space planning, block planning, adjacencies, floor plans, elevations, and details.
• Ability to check team work for accuracy, manage time to meet budgets and schedules, and collaborate in a project team setting.
• Creative and critical thinking, with the ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and building programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in interior design.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in interior design, with healthcare experience required.
• Project Management certification preferred.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, Newforma, and Bluebeam.
• Strong client management and internal team leadership skills.
• Excellent presentation abilities, including communicating abstract ideas to clients.

Work Environment

Typical office environment with sedentary work using computers. Field work may require travel and exposure to elements, including inclement weather.

Pay

Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD, and various CA, NJ, VA areas: $86,800.00 - $130,200.00 annually. Note: Final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus-eligible. Part-time compensation is pro-rated based on agreed working hours.
