About the Role

The Healthcare Business & Decision Support Analyst serves as the organization’s resource for enterprise analytics, business intelligence, and operational decision support. This position transforms financial, clinical, operational, and revenue cycle data into meaningful insights that support strategic planning, performance improvement, reimbursement optimization, and organizational growth. The analyst partners with executive leadership and department leaders to develop dashboards, analyze trends, identify opportunities, and provide data-driven recommendations that improve operational and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop executive dashboards, scorecards, and KPI reporting to support leadership decision-making.
  • Perform operational, financial, clinical, and revenue cycle analyses.
  • Develop and maintain statistical reports for hospital operations, including patient volumes, admissions, discharges, emergency department visits, outpatient activity, clinic utilization, payer mix, productivity, and other key performance indicators.
  • Prepare and validate data extracts supporting Medicare Cost Report requirements, including statistical, financial, utilization, and departmental data.
  • Pull, organize, reconcile, and validate supporting data from EHR, ERP, financial, and operational systems.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Patient Financial Services, Clinical Operations, and Information Technology to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of reporting data.
  • Develop and maintain recurring data extraction and reporting processes to improve efficiency, standardization, and data integrity.
  • Assist with reimbursement analyses related to Critical Access Hospital cost-based reimbursement, Rural Health Clinics, Medicare/Medicaid programs, and other governmental reimbursement programs as assigned.
  • Analyze revenue cycle performance, including accounts receivable trends, denials, collections, payer performance, and reimbursement opportunities.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and present data-driven recommendations.
  • Develop business cases for new services, staffing models, equipment purchases, grants, and capital investments.
  • Perform ROI, break-even, forecasting, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Analyze provider productivity, patient volumes, throughput, utilization, and departmental performance.
  • Evaluate service line performance and identify opportunities for growth and operational improvement.
  • Benchmark organizational performance against peer Critical Access Hospitals.
  • Validate data integrity, reporting methodologies, and analytical processes.
  • Maintain KPI definitions, reporting standards, and analytical documentation.
  • Transform data into actionable information using EHR, ERP, and business intelligence tools.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and improve access to information.
  • Support strategic planning and performance improvement initiatives through data-driven analysis.
  • Serve as a trusted analytical resource and business partner for executive leadership and department leaders.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Clinical Operations, Quality, Human Resources, and Information Technology.
  • Partner with department leaders to define reporting needs, metrics, and analytical solutions.
  • Translate business questions into meaningful data analysis and reporting solutions.
  • Support reporting tools, EHR enhancements, and workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain reporting documentation, data dictionaries, and analytical standards.
  • Assist with regulatory, accreditation, grant, and compliance reporting.
  • Provide guidance on dashboard utilization and interpretation of performance metrics.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues with system owners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of organizational data.
  • Pursue continuous learning in healthcare analytics, business intelligence, and healthcare operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of experience in healthcare analytics, decision support, business intelligence, finance, or operational analysis preferred.
  • Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare experience preferred.

Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, EHR reporting tools, and healthcare data systems.
  • Knowledge of hospital operations, reimbursement, and revenue cycle analytics.
  • Advanced dashboard development and data visualization skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data into practical operational recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with leaders across the organization.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office environment with occasional exposure to clinical healthcare settings.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, sitting, hand-eye coordination, and verbal communication.
