Health & Wellness Specialist

About the role

The Health and Wellness Specialist will support the Healthy Food Box Program Team at Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County. Reporting to the Health and Wellness Director, the specialist will assist with program administration, packaging, and educational materials development.

Responsibilities

• Support member enrollment and enter member information into an online case management program database.
• Carry a member case load, conducting weekly consultations via telehealth.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure food items meet food as medicine standards.
• Plan and coordinate the weekly delivery of Healthy Food Boxes.
• Identify and develop culturally relevant diagnosis recipes and educational materials.
• Translate program materials as needed.
• Engage with community partners to provide individualized care for program participants.
• Represent the organization with high-quality customer service in the office and community.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience working with under-resourced/served communities or in government, nonprofit, or faith-based organizations.
• Knowledge and interest in nutrition, diet-related chronic illness prevention and management, food justice, food as medicine, and community health.
• Excellent customer service skills, including empathy, tact, and patience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required; bicultural strongly preferred.
• Comfortable communicating respectfully with diverse clients and sensitive to diverse backgrounds.
• Flexible and able to meet strict deadlines.
• Strong personal computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing.
• Confidentiality of participant information maintained.
• Physical requirements: able to hear conversations, communicate accurately, sit for long periods, walk, lift up to 20-30 pounds, and use manual dexterity.

Qualifications

• Training and experience in Kinesiology, Sociology, Psychology, Community Studies, Nutrition Science, Public Health, or related fields.
• Associate's degree or equivalent education and experience for one year of education/course work.
• Community Health Worker Certificate and equivalent experience.
• Bachelor's or associate's degree in a related field.
• Two years of college course work or equivalent education and experience.

• Flexibility, ability to multitask, and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong personal computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing.
• Correct English and Spanish usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Basic filing and record-keeping methods and procedures.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of participant information.
• Physical requirements: able to hear conversations, communicate accurately, sit for long periods, walk, lift up to 20-30 pounds, and use manual dexterity.

Pay

$60,634 - $66,024 DOE

Schedule

Full-time, regular, non-exempt position with a competitive annualized hourly salary. Evening work is required and occasional weekend work may be required.
