Health Unit Coordinator - Full-time Night Shift

Schedule

Full time, night shift (36 weekly hours, 0.9 FTE)

Pay

Expected starting pay range: $17.49 - $20.99 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.

Responsibilities

  • Clerical Duties
    • Operates and maintains unit information systems, ensuring medical record integrity, forms management, timely response to faxes, printed material, and mail.
    • Ensures accuracy of patient data and timely completion of admissions, discharges, transfers, and short stay documentation.
    • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability for patient charges/rental equipment, CCHMC charge capture procedures, and maintains a designated par level of clerical supplies.
  • Environmental Management
    • Ensures all areas within the division are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
    • Maintains awareness of patient location and monitors traffic flow at the front desk and on the unit.
    • Assists with compliance of visitor policies and applies arm bands for parents/caregivers.
    • Reports maintenance needs (e.g., wiping down monitors, troubleshooting printer issues, logging off information) and environmental service needs to appropriate division, following up to assure completion.
    • Collaborates with clinical, admitting, information systems, and environmental services staff to coordinate efficient patient flow.
  • Systems Management
    • Identifies system problems and utilizes strategies for resolutions.
    • Responds to communication system/patient alarms with a sense of urgency.
    • Reviews and revises staffing information.
  • Communication
    • Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers, serving as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service.
    • Interacts with parents/guardians to obtain non-clinical information as requested.
    • Ensures and reviews timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information (e.g., HIPAA, Informed Consent, Advanced Directive for patients 18 or older) as defined by CCHMC's mission, applicable laws, and regulations.
    • Has in-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards and fosters application to clinical practice.
  • Provides daily operational/administrative support for the unit and outpatient services.
  • Functions as a resource for clinical personnel regarding unit and outpatient operational issues.
  • Anticipates needs for the department and coordinates information systems, environmental, admitting, and clerical functions for patient areas dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No directly related experience required.
