About the role

A6NS is a 22-bed Medical/Surgical unit located on the 6th floor of Location A. This unit has a diverse patient population including: general medical/surgical, bariatric, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, and patients with HIV/AIDS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and secretarial functions in the delivery of patient care, acting as the central communication source on the nursing unit
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, patients, families, and visitors to coordinate services and ensure timely care delivery
  • Responsible for unit communications including telephone, fax, email, and patient call lights
  • Transcribe and process physician orders accurately, including order entry into the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Assemble, maintain, and organize patient charts; ensure all documentation is complete and filed correctly
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; prepare charts for new admissions and ensure all required forms are available
  • Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures; arrange transportation as needed
  • Maintain inventory of office and unit supplies; place orders as necessary
  • Assist with data entry, reporting, and other clerical tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year of clerical or administrative experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Experience with electronic medical records and order entry preferred
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and function effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, email, data entry)
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
