Health Services - Sub School Nurse

Position Description – School Nurse - Sub DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the Director of Nursing. Determine students’ health status upon arrival at the clinic and provide appropriate care and referral if necessaryPerform routine hearing, vision, and other health screenings as neededAdminister medications and perform selected health procedures per established guidelinesAssist students with health, hygiene, activities of daily living and other personal needsMake referrals to school social worker, guidance counselor, administrator, school staff, and community agencies as appropriateMonitor student immunization recordsNotify site administrator or designee at once if an emergency situation exists, including notification if a call is made to 911. Make every reasonable attempt to notify the parent or emergency contact person regarding medical emergencies as soon as possibleFollow district protocol as contained in the clinic’s procedure manualPerform clerical duties regarding health services that include:Organize, file, and maintain health information in a confidential mannerDocumentation of health services providedMaintain the clinic supply inventoryAssist the school nurse with students’ health record review and follow up, including, but not limited to, immunization, physical exam, and emergency cardsCommunicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies while maintaining confidentialityKeep the health room organized/orderly and clean at all timesMaintain daily attendance records as per building procedureEstablish and update a health record for every studentAssist with Kindergarten RegistrationCollects, maintains and distributes emergency plans to the necessary staffUpdate the computer database on each student as neededCoordinate breaks and lunches with the school secretary as needed to ensure coverage in the office and clinic.Perform other school health related duties as assigned by director or site administrator Qualifications And Skills Registered Nurse (RN) licenseFirst Aid and CPR certificationKnowledge of areas of pediatric health including physical, emotional, and mental healthKnowledge of state health regulationsKnowledge of school laws and policiesAbility to work independently or with othersAbility to communicate well with othersAbility to assess situations and act quicklyAbility to multitaskComputer experience with Word, Excel and Google apps preferredInterest in working with children/adolescents and their health needs PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully preform the essential functions of the job. Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, sitting, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds or more) as well as use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
