Pay
Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000. Salary is determined by HR based on job duties, applicant’s education and experience, internal equity, department budget, and funding source.
This role is eligible for Temple’s employee referral program (TERP); current employees can earn up to $500.
Schedule
This is a 10-month onsite position with 2 months off in the summer. Occasional Saturdays or overtime may be required.
About the role
Staff RN provides outpatient nursing care to students at Temple University’s Student Health Services. The position requires background checks, including Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Background Check.
Responsibilities
- Provide outpatient nursing care, including first aid and assessment of acute and chronic illnesses, on an appointment and walk-in basis.
- Triage patients to determine urgency of medical care.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, record vital signs, height, weight, temperature, and chief complaint.
- Prepare patients for examination and assist providers as needed, including minimal patient lifting.
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Use a computerized medical information system to schedule appointments and enter patient data (demographics, visits, diagnoses, procedures, immunizations, and charges).
- Manage patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
- Assist with exams when requested by providers or patients.
- Draw blood, prepare lab specimens, and complete lab slips.
- Perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests, such as urine pregnancy and dipstick analysis.
- Administer routine and allergy injections as ordered by a physician.
- Assist in developing nursing protocols.
- Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications as ordered.
- Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement projects, and committees.
- Coordinate outreach programs in cooperation with other departments (e.g., immunization programs).
- Promote health education and illness prevention initiatives across the university.
- Recommend medical and surgical supplies to maintain an appropriate formulary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school RN program.
- Current Pennsylvania RN license.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in occupational health, family practice, college health, or emergency medicine.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for health records and healthcare delivery.
- Understanding of legal and ethical issues related to healthcare practice.

- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

- Stethoscope
- Subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injection syringes
