About the role
Nature of Work These positions provide clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers while promoting public health and ensuring quality patient care at a public health department setting. These positions perform basic Certified Medical Assistant duties under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
Responsibilities
- Collecting laboratory specimens including phlebotomy procedures
- Administering immunizations and medications as directed by licensed provider
- Educating patients and families on treatment procedures and disease prevention and wellness
- Maintaining accurate medical records (HER/EMR)
- Scheduling appointments
- Updating patient information
- Handling billing and insurance
- Answering phones
- Supporting public health programs such as immunization clinics and other related work as required
Requirements
- Training: High school diploma or the equivalent
- Experience: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care, treatment and development of patients or residents of a healthcare facility
- Substitution: Certification or registration as a Nursing Assistant or Nurse Aide may substitute for the required training and experience

Skills
Current Certified Medical Assistance certificate
Experience In Collecting lab specimens, performing phlebotomy, administering injections of immunizations and/or medications, scheduling appointments, managing medical records (HER/EMR), updating patient information, handling billing and insurance and answering phones
