About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at the University of California, Irvine is seeking candidates for positions in general anesthesia and its various divisions. These positions are at the level of Assistant Professor or above, contingent upon the candidate's qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perioperative Management: Assessment, examination, and optimization of the surgical patient.
  • General Anesthesiology: Inhalational anesthetics, intravenous anesthetics, and use of muscle relaxants.
  • Monitored Anesthesia Care: Airway management including ventilation, laryngoscopy and intubation, laryngeal mask airway, fiberoptic laryngoscopy and intubation, bronchoscopy, cricothyroidotomy, and other difficult airway techniques.
  • Conduction/Regional Anesthesia: Epidural analgesia/anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, IV regional blocks, infiltration blocks, plexus blocks, peripheral nerve and field blocks, epidural blocks, subarachnoid blocks using nerve stimulation or ultrasound.
  • Routine surface ultrasonography for line placement and surface diagnostics.
  • Placement and use of invasive hemodynamic monitoring including arterial cannulation, central venous cannulation, pulmonary artery catheter placement.
  • Supervision and care of patients in the post-anesthesia care unit.
  • Management of acute pain in patients.
  • Anesthetic management of common pediatric anesthesia cases in children 2 to 16 years of age.
  • Pain Management: Initial consultations, longitudinal management, opioid management, performing and managing sympathetic blocks, spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, trigger point injections, joint injections, differential nerve blocks, botulinum toxin injections, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal pump delivery system therapies.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Obstetric Anesthesia: Placement and management of labor epidurals and continuous spinal epidurals, management of conduction and general anesthesia for caesarian section, and neonatal resuscitation.
  • Clinical responsibilities at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA and Irvine, CA, and affiliated sites in Orange County.

Requirements

  • Board eligible or board certified.
  • Eligible for California licensure or licensed to practice in the state of California.
  • Fellowship trained or equivalent experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree(s) equivalent.
  • Board certification/eligibility and California licensure.
  • Average 40-hour work week clinical commitment including call responsibilities.

Pay

Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) depending on specialty can range from $440,000-$575,000. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Membership in the health science compensation plan provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Schedule

The Health Sciences Clinical Professor will have an average 40-hour work week clinical commitment including call responsibilities.
