Responsibilities
- Accountable for achieving strategic objectives in team member safety, environmental protection, and loss prevention
- Lead implementation of safety programs, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, workers’ compensation reduction initiatives, and required recordkeeping
- Ensure plant-wide compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Timely communication of safety, environmental, and compliance matters to plant operations and corporate leadership
- Conduct ad hoc compliance audits and site assessments as needed
- Build and promote a company culture that prioritizes safety, protects employees, improves processes, and enhances key metrics such as Incident Rate Ratio (IRR) and Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR)
- Ensure effective hazard identification, risk mitigation, and corrective actions for plant operations and administrative offices
- Manage, coach, and develop the Health & Safety team
- Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for team and site performance
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development planning for direct reports
- Conduct daily safety walks to verify safe work practices and identify unsafe acts, faulty equipment, or policy non-compliance
- Ensure prompt follow-up and closure of corrective actions identified through audits, inspections, or incidents
- Oversee all required environmental reporting related to air, chemical, waste, and water compliance
- Organize Health & Safety training programs and maintain required records, certifications, and documentation
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventive action implementation
- Support emergency response planning, drills, and crisis preparedness activities
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HR, and leadership to improve safety performance
- Conduct thorough and timely Layered Process Audits (LPA) in assigned work areas
- Maintain cleanliness at the worksite in accordance with 5S3R Standards: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) preferred
- Strong knowledge of occupational safety regulations, environmental compliance, and risk management systems
- Experience: 7 to 10+ years of experience evaluating, leading, and improving safety programs in a manufacturing environment; 3 to 6+ years of leadership experience managing a Health & Safety team in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with regulatory inspections, audits, workers’ compensation, and incident management
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technology, chemicals, pneumatic, and industrial systems preferred
- Experience in high-volume production environments preferred
