Position Summary
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Emergency services and health care of the sick and injured child.
- When appropriate, administer immediate first aid.
- Maintain a system of written/digital health records, which is functional in defining areas of need.
- Receive/collect health care data and report to Registered Nurse.
- Dispense medication.
- Bathroom students when necessary and provide student with clean clothing when necessary.
- Maintain guidelines related to confidentiality and reporting.
- Maintain required certifications.
- Observe good safety and health care practices at all times.
Qualifications
- Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent plus health care training, first aid certification, CPR certification. Additional health care education or training a plus.
- Experience: Two (2) years working with school age children in a healthcare field. Will consider other related work experience.
- Certification: First aid and CPR
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to work well with students, staff, parents, health care professionals, and the public.
- Ability to provide health care services under pressure.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be able to follow detailed written and verbal directions.
- Good communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to employ good and safe health care practices.
- Must have satisfactory evaluations.
- Must be dependable, punctual and have a good attendance record.
- Must attend professional development/training as needed and as required.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight-hour day.
- Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to thirty pounds without assistance in an indoor setting.
- Ability to get down on and up off of the floor independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone, via email, and in person to provide information and assistance.
- Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building.
- Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate medical equipment (insulin pen, blood glucose monitor, catheter, ect), computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc.
- Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone.
- Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm.
- Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain patience and respect for others, even when in high stress situations.
- Contacts with other departments, outside organizations, and the general public: The job description as written will cover the most significant duties/responsibilities but does not exclude other work as assigned.
- Safety: Employee is responsible for taking all steps necessary to protect yourself and others against occupational accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
