About the role

The Health Professions Counselor position in the PreProfessional Advisement Center (PPAC) at BYU counsels students and alumni seeking health professions careers. This role involves assessing students' readiness, developing strategic plans, facilitating referrals, and preparing students for admissions interviews.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and mentor 1000+ students seeking health professions careers.
• Assess students' backgrounds, motivations, and readiness for health professions.
• Facilitate difficult conversations and help students prepare for interviews.
• Conduct industry analysis to stay current with health professions.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with health professions recruiters and alumni.
• Host recruiters and participate in on-campus recruiting events.

Requirements

• Master’s degree required.
• 4 or more years of relevant advising experience or 4 or more years in a relevant helping profession.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism.
• Advanced helping skills and expertise in university student advising.
• Knowledge of BYU academic policies and procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
• Ability to present to groups and teach classes.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree required.
• 4 or more years of relevant advising experience or 4 or more years in a relevant helping profession.
• Master’s Degree in advisement, counseling, school psychology, or a health-related field preferred.
• Skills in research, data collection, and analysis.
• Experience with teaching and program development.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
