Health Insurance Underwriter
About the role
This position will interact with all members of our staff as well as many clients. The primary challenges are the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time, the ability to interact with people with varied personalities and communication styles, and the flexibility to adjust resources as needed. Training and support are provided both corporately and locally.
Responsibilities
- Prepare rating and plan design quotes within Milliman's underwriting models
- Ensure proposals are of highest accuracy and delivered on time
- Collaborate with clients to gather additional information needed for underwriting decisions or to explain underwriting outcomes
- Cookorate with Sr. Leadership and Account Management for complex situations
- Provide feedback with opportunities for improvement in our rating models, processes or client interaction
- Prepare client deliverables (reports, letters, presentations) primarily with MS Excel
- Responding to client requests for advice, information, explanations, or schedules through phone and e-mail
- Working with large insurance carriers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United HealthCare, Aetna and Cigna to collect data and other reports

- Meticulous attention and compliance to policies and procedures
- Skill in deriving information where it is not immediately evident
- 0-2 years of previous experience in underwriting
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field
