This role is for a Health Information Management Coordinator who provides clerical support along with scanning duties in the functional areas of data compilation, verification of records, maintenance of files, and correspondence in the HIM Department.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes the assembled record for chart completion deficiencies, in accordance with regulatory requirements and medical staff rules and regulations.
- Ensures any deficiencies are assigned to the appropriate medical staff member and data is entered for tracking and monitoring purposes.
- Reviews documentation and updates or clears the deficiencies as appropriate.
- Responsible for answering telephone calls and assisting visitors (including but not limited to physicians, patients, and their family members), while maintaining confidentiality.
- Retrieves, logs, prints medical records as requested by physician offices, patients, other hospitals, and other entities as needed.
- Notifies Director of any outstanding records, issues with equipment, processes, or other job concerns.
- Takes on-call rotation for retrieval of records, fax transfer records, pull power of attorney papers, etc.
- Assists with other HIM daily functions.
- Works closely with physicians and ensures they are set up to dictate into the system.
- Trains physicians/APRNs to dictate and e-sign dictation and orders.
- Ensures completion of records for Joint Commission standards.
- Works the hold queue for the dictation system.
- Makes physicians aware of late dictations, updates, and cut-off dictation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
- Additional coursework in Medical Transcription, Medical Terminology, and Anatomy & Physiology (Preferred).
Qualifications
- Experience in Release of Information Practices (Preferred).
- Management/Supervisory experience (Preferred).
