Health Information Management Specialist (Medical Records)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect, date stamp, and review all medical record documentation received by fax or mail.
  • Scan information into the correct tab in the electronic medical record.
  • Routinely route information to the provider for review and/or signature in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain electronic medical records system and implement improvements in cooperation with the Supervisor-Health Information Management.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Health Information Department by abiding by confidentiality and storage policies.
  • Work in cooperation with supervisors and managed care entities to perform medical chart reviews.
  • Collect and review releases of information and distribute within the medical records department.
  • Document receipt and transfer of complete release of information in a timely manner.
  • Abide by infection control policies and procedures as dictated in the Centro del Barrio Infection Control Manual.
  • Abide by policies and procedures on hazardous materials as dictated in the Employee Safety Handbook.
  • Participate in the agency's Quality Improvement Program.
  • Abide by all safety policies as dictated in the Employee Safety Manual.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months experience. One year's experience preferred in medical records setting.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills helpful.
