Health Information Management Specialist I
About the role
Breg is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to join our team in either Kent, WA or Denver, CO. In this role, you will obtain medical records and supporting documentation, proactively work to secure incomplete data for clean submission of claims utilizing EMR access, technology support software, requests for information, and traditional medical record requests. You will examine documents and determine their proper placement within the paper or electronic record.
Responsibilities
- Within established guidelines, utilize critical thinking to complete key job responsibilities, such as medical record retrieval, document labeling, and problem solving
- Examine patient's medical records and verify patient identification
- Perform pre-scan validation of new claims and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, timely processing, and revenue recognition
- Perform administrative tasks and ensure efficient office operations; includes receiving paper claim documentation, scanning of claims, tending to mail and overnight shipping, faxes, copies, scans, files, purchasing office supplies, and creating general correspondence
- Maintain and ensure HIPAA compliance for patient medical records and personal health information
- Meet daily, weekly, and monthly objectives including claim processing, revenue, and achievement of scorecard expectations
- Promote Breg's culture of accountability by demonstration and exemplify Breg's cultural beliefs
- Support all other medical billing and collection tasks as required
- May meet, greet, and assist patients, vendors, and visitors promptly, efficiently, and in a professional manner
- May maintain office supplies and equipment by anticipating supply needs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive excellence in patient care and business solutions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in medical billing, as a medical office assistant, or other applicable administrative role, preferred
- Previous medical records experience, including EMR navigation, general billing knowledge, CPT and ICD-10 codes preferred
- Knowledge of standard medical terminology, basic human anatomy, orthopedic diagnoses, and medical record format, content and medical documentation order preferred
- Knowledge of EMR systems and understanding of where various data points and clinical information is located preferred
- Computer proficient to include web browser/internet search, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint capabilities. Technical competence includes the ability to learn new software and systems
- Proficient in the use and operation of office machinery, telecommunications, and web-based tools
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and basic maintenance of scanning equipment preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and professional
- Ability to maintain consistent, regular attendance and punctuality

Pay
Salary Range: $19.00-$24.00/hr. Actual compensation is determined by factors such as experience, skills, and business needs. This role may also be eligible for bonus.
Schedule
May include variable start/end times outside of the company's standard business hours of 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
