Responsibilities

  • Monitor clinical information security and handle the clinical information release process in accordance with legal guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and Masonic Village policies.
  • Communicate with residents to facilitate the long-term care process and record requests as needed.
  • Accurately complete and process Medical Assistance forms and maintain tracking data.
  • Complete data entry and process information concurrently to provide data for reimbursement, statistical trending, quality care review, and other functions in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure urgent matters are completed promptly.
  • Process clinical records upon admission and discharge, completing workflow in the EHR according to current policies.
  • Perform follow-up and maintain concurrent tracking data for incomplete records.
  • Provide clerical support to the HIM Department, including answering phones, managing mail and email, and maintaining supplies.
  • Maintain a work environment conducive to productivity and safety.
  • Maintain personal competence through reading, educational programs, and meetings as required.
  • Assist with other duties within the scope of HIM practice, responsibility, and authority.
  • Support training of staff and provide backup to peers in essential job functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of a Medical Secretary or comparable program preferred.
  • AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.), Registered Health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.), or Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.) preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical office environment, preferably in long-term care, with demonstrated technical abilities.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
  • Proficiency with telephone, copier, fax machine, computer, and standard office equipment.
  • Positive attitude and ability to interact well with individuals of all educational and experience backgrounds.
