Health Information Management Clerk

Under the direct supervision of the Health Information Management Manager, this position provides timely and accurate administrative support functions including medical records management, scanning, PHI request, and messaging to both clinical and non-clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify, index, and commit clinical documents in OnBase in a timely manner.
  • Identify HIPAA-compliant authorization forms.
  • Complete release of information (ROI) accurately and timely from receipt of authorization through collection of payment.
  • Perform hot desk duties: release of information, patient advice requests, medical records email.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide knowledgeable and excellent customer service over the phone.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical office setting required.
  • Previous experience working in medical records with basic to advanced working knowledge of privacy laws, HIPAA laws, and release of information laws.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read and understand the English language.
  • Effectively maintain confidentiality of records and communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Knowledge of medical office operations and basic medical terminology (knowledge can be obtained through formal classes or work experience).
  • Excellent verbal communication, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and function as part of a team.
  • Initiative and ability to work under minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in use of all computer software utilized in practice.
  • Bilingual ability recommended.
