Health Economics Senior Research Analyst

Join a vibrant team supporting the activities of the School of Public Health’s Department of Health Services Policy & Practice and its research centers. This role contributes to health services and economics research aimed at developing policies to lower spending growth, improve patient outcomes, and drive structural change in U.S. health care delivery.

About the role

Core topic areas include payment reform, long-term care, the evolving landscape of Medicare and Medicare Advantage, commercial price growth, health care market structures (including the impacts of consolidation and private equity ownership), and state efforts to address affordability and value. The analyst will perform quantitative analyses for various center research projects, using technical skills to design studies, construct databases, manage data, perform statistical programming and analysis, and interpret and report results. Much of the work involves secondary data analysis of administrative datasets, including health care claims.

The Health Economics Senior Research Analyst will work collaboratively with faculty-led teams in a dynamic environment that encourages independent thinking, problem-solving, and collegiality. This is a hybrid-eligible, fixed-term position with a current end date of 06/30/2027, which may be extended based on available funding.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement regression-based analyses using statistical software.
• Apply econometrics and causal inference methods to research projects.
• Work with large, complex datasets, ensuring data integrity and validation.
• Construct and manage databases for health services and economics research.
• Perform statistical programming and analysis on administrative health care data (e.g., Medicare claims, commercial claims).
• Interpret and report technical results clearly in written and graphical form.
• Collaborate with faculty-led research teams on health policy topics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degrees in economics, applied economics, or closely related quantitative fields are strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience implementing regression-based analyses using statistical software.
• Training in econometrics and causal inference methods.
• Experience working with large, complex datasets.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage and validate data.
• Ability to communicate technical results clearly in written and graphical form.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with administrative health care data (e.g., Medicare claims, commercial claims, or electronic health records).
• Prior experience as a research assistant or in a policy research environment.
• Familiarity with the U.S. health care system and health policy topics.
