About the role
This position provides direct hands-on milieu management care to clients, including assistance with activities of daily living, documentation of care provided, awareness of psychosocial and physical needs/safety of clients, engagement in social and recreational activities, and support in the continued development of social and life skills.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct client care by hands on performance and/or assistance as needed with activities of daily living (ADL) and continued development of social and life skills through the engagement in recreational and social activities.
- Arranges and adapts personal care items, such as food or clothing, and supports the ongoing needs of the clients.
- Maintains environmental needs by gently guiding and instructing clients for self-care activities.
- Ensures clients are oriented to the program, reviews program requirements, and maintains inventory of personal items.
- Orients clients to the program requirements, their responsibilities as clients, and reviews the program requirements.
- Monitors safety needs by supervising clients, their whereabouts, interactions, and conditions, and referring to the MHTL Homes team regarding potential changes.
- Transports clients to and from appointments and recreational/social activities, ensuring safety of the clients.
- Maintains schedules of outside client appointments and recreational/social activities, and collaborates with the MHTL Homes team.
- Maintains trip logs and completes them in a timely manner.
- Adheres to department standards and staff development, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Completes staff training, including MHTL Homes' specific training and CDHS mandatory training.
- Attends assigned meetings and in-services as scheduled by the supervisor.
- Ensures all documentation, such as shift notes, incident logs, refrigerator temperature logs, and other logs related to life, safety, and health, are timely and correctly completed.
- Teaches or orients new/pulled/pool staff related to milieu management/safety basics.
- Administers medications to the individuals served in accordance with the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- Dispenses medication to clients and assists with client self-administration of medications.
- Reviews the MAR, pulls out the appropriate medication per the MAR, hands the medication to the client, and records relevant information.
- May supply topical medication to the client, and the client applies it.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be QMAP certified within 6 months of hire. Must have a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border. Must be a resident of Colorado at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- One (1) year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
- QMAP certification
- Experience working in psychiatric settings and with direct patient care
- Experience with dealing with clients in crisis, utilizing de-escalation techniques
- Basic understanding of various psychiatric disorders
- Understanding of when to report changes in client condition or complaints such as pain or other medical needs to the Provider or Nurse
- Knowledge of the 10 rights of Medication Administration and proper Infection Control practices for passing medications
- Basic understanding of signs and symptoms of adverse effects r/t medications
- Experience with Google Suite, Google Drive, and Google Docs
- Experience with preparing meals for a group, following food safety standards, and diets
