Responsibilities

• Provides basic nursing skills including, but not limited to: Vital signs and Pulse oximetry
• Phlebotomy
• 12-lead EKG
• Finger stick blood glucose
• ADLs
• Recording intake and output
• Collecting urine, stool, sputum specimens
• Apply/remove compression hose; SCD, etc.
• Emptying drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies
• Bladder Scanning
• Obtaining height and weight
• Patient transport
• Room turnover and stocking
• Patient monitoring device placement
• Setting up for minor procedures including sterile procedures
• Discontinuing peripheral IVs
• Discontinuing foley catheters
• Setting up and maintaining a sterile field for procedures
• Applying/removing compression hose; SCD, etc.
• Point of Care testing
• Maintaining minor equipment
• Collection of, proper identification of, and labeling of laboratory specimens
• Providing assistance to physicians and other providers during sterile procedures
• Aiding in surgical skin prep
• Documenting in O2 all tasks, I&O, etc.
• Maintaining a neat, clutter-free and clean patient room and work environment
• Maintaining a safe patient environment to include High Fall Risk Interventions as appropriate including but not limited to, rounding on patients, answering call lights in person promptly for all patients on the unit
• Demonstrating proper hand hygiene, standard precautions and isolation principles
• Care for patients in restraints, including ROM and fluids/toileting; reorienting confused patients; reinforcement of patient/family education regarding fall and safety precautions, and isolation principles
• Promptly notifying the RN of change in vital signs from baseline or expected results, change in mental status or condition, any breakdown in skin integrity to redness of skin, patient report of pain, any other patient needs, concerns or issues
• Any other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED
• Acute care experience with direct patient care and phlebotomy
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) OR Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states
• Respirator Fit Test - The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) upon Hire

Skills

• Familiar with Microsoft Outlook and data entry

• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
