About the role
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, they assist staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
Responsibilities
- Supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit.
- Assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
- Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge.
- Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels.
- Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
Requirements
- Education: HS/GED required. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications and Registrations: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.
- Experience: Requires previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.
