Health Care Assistant - Madison Hospital Intensive Care Unit - FT - 3rd Shift
About the role
Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, the HCA assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care Activities:
- Assist with vital signs monitoring
- Support activities of daily living for patients
- Transport and transfer patients as necessary
- Discharge patients as directed
- Clerical Support:
- Answer and direct incoming calls
- Respond to patient calls
- Enter patient charges into the computer system
- Maintain patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supplies
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment
Qualifications
- Education: High School/GED required. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Basic Life Support (BCLS) is required by the conclusion of orientation.
- Experience: Previous patient care and/or two years of clerical experience with a successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical and patient care aide positions will be considered.
- Additional Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
