Responsibilities

  • Affords assistance to patients with feeding, drinking, ambulation, grooming, toileting, dressing, socialization, and unit-specific technical skills.
  • Supports the reinforcement or education of patients/significant others as directed by professional care providers.
  • Collects, reports, and documents data related to direct patient care activities.
  • Engages in indirect patient care activities such as maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe patient care environment, performing companion care, managing housekeeping tasks, transporting patients, and accompanying physicians during examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Performs unit-specific duties and additional clerical tasks as required, including stocking and maintaining supplies, communicating with hospital staff, processing paper and electronic orders, scheduling appointments, managing admits, discharges, and transfers, observing and reporting on cardiac monitor activity, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • Available to work variable and rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 patient care environment.
  • Capable of performing essential functions as outlined above.
  • Exhibits strong human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Displays excellent customer service abilities.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced, busy environment.
  • Proficient in using a multi-line phone system and hospital paging systems.
  • Capable of initiating appropriate actions in emergency/crisis situations.

Qualifications

  • For individuals enrolled in a nursing program, must obtain an RN license within three months of graduation, or obtain a CNA certification if remaining in the program longer than three months.
  • Licenses Required: Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, and one of the following - Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah or completion of first round of clinical and current enrollment in an approved nursing education program.
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
