About the role

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, the HCA assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit.
  • Assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
  • Performs patient care activities including vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge.
  • Assists with clerical support such as directing incoming calls, responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
  • BCLS certification required by the conclusion of orientation.
  • Previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with successful work history preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or GED required. Education preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
  • Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.
  • Experience: Requires previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.

Skills

  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
