About the Role

The Patient Care Aide (PCA) works under the direction of the RN/LPN, providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards. The PCA must exhibit the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, organize and set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic nursing care to patients within the Patient Care Aide scope of practice, addressing psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and physical needs.
  • Performs basic patient care responsibilities tailored to the standard of care for the patient’s age.
  • Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Provides explanations to patients and families prior to administering care and answers questions within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Responds to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Assumes accountability for appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Patient Care Aide’s scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED completion (required).
  • BLS certification required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
