About the role
Under the direct supervision of a school nurse (RN), the position involves substituting in schools throughout the county as needed due to absences or vacancies of health assistants or special needs aides. Travel mileage to these locations is reimbursed at the county rate. Responsibilities may include first aid and administering medication as delegated by the school nurse, a variety of health tasks and clerical work, and other specialized duties based on assignment, with work hours that may fluctuate.
Responsibilities
- Provide first aid and administer medication as delegated by the school nurse.
- Perform a variety of health tasks and clerical work.
- Travel to assigned schools; mileage reimbursed at county rate.
- Perform other specialized duties as assigned based on school needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED).
- Current Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) Nursing Assistant Certificate or Geriatric Nursing Certification.
- Successful completion of the MBON‑approved School Health Certified Medication Technician training program provided by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
- Valid Driver’s License.

Pay
Salary: $23.09 per hour (annual budgeted amount $29,866.92).
Schedule
6.5 hours per day (varies between schools); 10‑month position with summers off; no shift work.
