Health and Safety Manager, Data Center Health and Safety
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. As a Regional Safety Engineer, you will own the Health and Safety function for your respective area, improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. You will work with data center engineers, construction managers, and cross-functional teams including security, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health and safety program. In this fast-paced environment, you will advocate for safe changes amid new infrastructure, tools, and processes.
Responsibilities
- Implement health and safety standards, policies, and practices, including safety management systems, training, risk assessments, industrial hygiene assessments, and applicable safety regulations.
- Conduct health and safety audits of data centers and active construction sites to ensure compliance with health, safety, and life safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance and implementation of global health and safety programs that exceed regulatory requirements.
- Develop health and safety plans for on-site emergencies, business continuity, and other unique events.
- Maintain adequate safety record keeping and data integrity.
- Perform data trend analysis to present to cluster leadership, supporting business and safety initiatives.
- Consult and partner with the AWS compliance team for interpretations and guidance.
- Identify risks and partner with Operations to remediate via the hierarchy of controls.
- Provide daily health and safety guidance to customers and stakeholders.
About the team
We are a diverse group of safety professionals serving the entire Data Center Community. Working backward from the needs of Operations, we deliver regional safety programs that protect people while minimizing operational disruption. We dive deep into data center workflows, hazards, and interdependencies to implement effective controls. By building consensus and earning trust across stakeholders, we drive adoption of safety best practices and stay curious about emerging safety technologies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of global environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Experience owning projects, communicating timelines, and executing independently.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- 3+ years of risk management or safety management experience in industrial, construction, data center, or similar high-hazard environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations, including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
- Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership.

Pay
Base salary range: $74,200.00 - $129,800.00 USD annually. Your package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
