About the role

Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in North Texas, serving over 55,000 adults and children annually. The Health and Safety Associate (HSA) is a member of the business operations team, responsible for ensuring a safe and trauma-informed environment of care. The HSA works with families and adults in treatment in a manner that is trauma-informed and responsive to needs, culture, and gender. Shift hours and job duties may change to support the needs of the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality, visible customer service and engages in a friendly, helpful manner with staff, individuals in services, and other visitors.
  • Observes lobbies for visitors exhibiting changes in behaviors, thoughts, or feelings to connect the individual with appropriate clinical staff, as needed.
  • Performs health and safety patrols, including interior and exterior checks of all facilities at the site to optimize campus safety.
  • Responds to non-police emergency calls (e.g., fire & security alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous material spills, pedestrian or vehicular traffic control).
  • Completes reports and documentation, including Health and Safety Reports, Vendor Logs, Janitor Logs, Weekly Site Safety Inspections, Weekly Cleaning Checklist, and others as needed.
  • Performs Weekly Site Safety Inspections, checking fire equipment condition, locks, alarm devices, and other potential hazards.
  • Analyzes operating practices to enhance organization and add value to job accomplishments.
  • Enters work orders for building safety or repair needs, coordinates with Facilities, and monitors work order statuses to ensure resolution within 48 business hours.
  • Conducts and documents monthly drills in accordance with the site’s Environment of Care Manual.
  • Conducts and documents the Environment of Care Scan for their site once per quarter.
  • Utilizes Mental Health First Aid skills to mediate conflicts or confrontations between agency staff, visitors, individuals served, or others at the assigned site.
  • Assists individuals by answering questions and providing directions to the proper building or office.
  • Documents and reports suspicious activity.
  • Attends all training and meetings as directed.
  • Provides walking escort as requested.
  • Responsible for opening/closing a clinic/building to ensure building security.
  • Uses two-way radios and cell phones to communicate with other staff on-site.
  • Responds to biohazardous incidents and performs supplemental sanitizing cleanings as needed.
  • Maintains attendance for the designated shift and communicates any changes to the Supervisor.
  • Remains knowledgeable about and compliant with internal and external policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, including Metrocare’s environment of care policies and regulatory standards.
  • Submits all timecards accurately and timely.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED with a minimum of 1 to 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Must complete assigned training courses, including:
    • Mental Health First Aid (within one year of hire).
    • Satori Alternatives to Manage Aggression (annually).
  • Strong analytical skills, customer service skills, data entry skills, attention to detail, professional acumen, business ethics, and understanding of continuous improvement processes.
  • Ability to solve problems, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to support the agency’s mission and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and workplace dynamics.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with internal/external customers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a large team.
  • Ability to interact with staff and individuals in service with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to multi-task and accommodate high volume.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using computers, printers, and software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to utilize the Internet for resources.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone.
  • Must be able to carry equipment and supplies (up to 15 pounds).
  • Requires standing and/or walking in excess of 7 hours a day.
  • In-county travel may be required occasionally; overnight travel is not required.
  • Must have a current State of Texas Driver License or obtain one within three months of employment if licensed in another state.
  • Liability insurance is required if operating a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business.
  • Must be insurable by the Center’s liability carrier if operating a Center vehicle or driving a personal car on Center business.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Expected to maintain composure under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and follow established protocols for a safe and secure work environment.
  • Ongoing training in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and workplace safety is provided.
  • Access to resources such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Telehealth Counseling, and Supportive Management.
  • The noise level may vary between low and mild; the work environment should not be unusually hot or cold.
