Header Setup Operator

About the role

With limited direction or supervision, this machine set-up/operator position requires the set-up and/or operation of heading equipment with various header types and sizes. The incumbent will possess and demonstrate the skills necessary to maintain production requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules and procedures.
• Set up, adjust, and operate equipment as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Perform first-piece inspections, monitor part quality, and make adjustments to maintain standards.
• Move materials using a forklift or non-motorized equipment as needed.
• Perform minor preventive maintenance (e.g., oiling, filter changes, daily upkeep).
• Work with tooling and maintenance personnel to maximize production efficiency.
• Train and assist other operators and department personnel as needed.
• Suggest and help implement process improvements.
• Maintain daily and weekly 5S requirements.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or four years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
• Ability to use gauges and proper gauging techniques.
• Ability to set up and operate various sizes/types of manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to consistently meet production and quality standards.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow operator documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including identifying and resolving routine issues.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, including basic written communication.
• Basic math skills for blueprint reading and measurements.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and machine requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a Header Set Up Operator in a manufacturing plant environment, preferably in the aerospace industry.
