About the Role

Ashland University is an NCAA Division II institution competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) with a comprehensive 24-sport athletic program. The university is located off Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio, midway between Cleveland and Columbus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach proper technique and skill development in various aspects of lacrosse.
  • Instruct student-athletes in small group and one-on-one settings on physical health, team concepts, team-building exercises, team development techniques, and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and GMAC rules and regulations; articulate these rules to student-athletes.
  • Align the program with Ashland University’s mission and goals and communicate these to student-athletes.
  • Manage the sport’s budget, including travel plans and equipment purchases.
  • Recruit potential student-athletes to meet roster requirements.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and coordinate with campus resources to provide academic counseling and assistance.
  • Oversee all practice and game preparation, implement game plans, and serve as the lead coach at all games and tournaments.
  • Direct and finalize all scouting responsibilities.
  • Select, direct, and evaluate a graduate assistant coach.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the athletic director, such as fundraising, game management, and representing the athletic department at functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to successfully impart lacrosse fundamentals and playing techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of the game and ability to instruct in multiple areas.
  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience at the high school or college level highly desired.
  • Ability to identify and recruit student-athletes.
  • Well-developed communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and extensive travel for recruiting and games.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States; Ashland University will not sponsor or take over sponsorship for an employment visa.

Anticipated start date: September 21, 2026. Full-time position with 40+ hours per week and varied shifts.
