About the role
Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Head Women and Men’s Tennis Coach will support the Director of Athletics and the Tennis Program by organizing, coordinating, and promoting a comprehensive program of tennis instruction designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community, NCAA, and the CIAA. This position will also maintain a good working relationship with alumni relations and reports to the Director of Athletics.
This role is fully in-person (not hybrid or remote).
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the tennis program.
- Recruit and maintain specific roster sizes for the tennis program.
- Monitor, assist, and nurture student-athletes’ academic progress toward graduation and assist with placement at four-year colleges and universities.
- Assign duties and responsibilities to assistant coaches.
- Coordinate the issuance, care, and inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Purchase equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Develop the annual budget.
- Schedule matches and officials.
- Supervise athletes at all times from the start to the end of practice or activity.
- Coordinate the security of all facilities used by the team and coaching staff.
- Submit certified rosters, award forms, season records, inventory forms, transportation requests, travel authorization requests, travel expense reports, requisitions, and other required forms.
- Ensure proper completion of physical examination forms and coordinate injuries with the training staff.
- Coordinate the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic uniforms.
- Conduct recruitment of athletes and handle awards presentations at awards programs.
- Prepare game contracts for tennis, ensure accuracy of information, and route for appropriate signatures.
- Prepare check requests for game guarantees, team travel, reimbursements, and payments, and route for appropriate approval and signatures.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and procurement card purchase requests; purchase supplies and equipment; process invoices and route for appropriate approval.
- Reconcile monthly tennis expenses and travel.
- Process official and unofficial visit reports and team post-trip summaries.
- Prepare and process travel requests for Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams; reserve transportation, rental cars; and prepare travel reimbursement paperwork.
- Provide event support for the tennis team, including pre-event logistics, event support, and post-event cleanup and evaluation.
- Engage with donors, alumni, and the public at events.
- Assist with external communication, including mailings, electronic communication, and phone campaigns.
- Supervise assistant coaches and work-study students.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in sports or a related field.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with NCAA Compliance Assistant, Front Rush, or related systems is preferred.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (desirable).
- Three years’ experience working with college-age athletes.
- Three years’ experience with NCAA and CIAA policies.
- Three years’ experience in recruiting collegiate athletes at the NCAA level.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit student-athletes with potential for academic and athletic success.
