Head Varsity Track and Field Coach (Part Time

Seasonal part-time position reporting to the Athletic Director. Season runs February 9th – June 1st. Compensation: $25/hour.

About the Role

In coordination with the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, the Head Varsity Track & Field Coach leads all aspects of the Bishop O’Dowd High School Track & Field program to ensure the highest quality of spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual growth for every student-athlete. The coach oversees skill development while integrating the school’s mission and core values into the program.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and model a spiritual and moral code consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop O’Dowd High School’s charism.
• Integrate the school’s mission and Catholic identity into the coaching and learning process of the Track & Field program.
• Serve as the overall leader of the Track & Field program, maintaining a clear vision reflecting current trends in coaching and skill development.
• Ensure and monitor the implementation of current instructional coaching methods to maximize player development.
• Facilitate regular coaching staff meetings and assist in creating a professional development plan for coaching staff in consultation with the Athletic Department.
• Staff all levels of the Track & Field program and monitor effectiveness through regular meetings with coaching staff and the Athletic Department.
• Regularly update Track & Field program expectations to players and families in consultation with the Athletic Department.
• Collaborate with the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field to plan and develop a master practice and game schedule, including overnight trips.
• Manage day-to-day scheduling with off-campus facilities for practices and meets.
• Represent the school at league preseason and postseason Track & Field meetings.
• Monitor the program’s social climate by regularly seeking information about student well-being from school colleagues.
• Attend athletic department events and meetings as required.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and bylaws from Bishop O’Dowd High School, West Alameda County Conference, North Coast Section, and California Interscholastic Federation.
• Support academic and ministry programs by encouraging student-athlete participation.
• Work with athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches to support student-athletes.
• Support student-athletes in the college recruitment process.
• Establish a team culture that builds strong relationships and fosters care and support for student-athletes.
• Work effectively with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds, races, genders, and ethnicities.

Qualifications

• Experience working with high school student-athletes in a Track & Field coaching or leadership role.
• Knowledgeable in current coaching methods and skill development for Track & Field.
• Commitment to upholding and modeling the school’s Catholic mission and charism.
• Experience supporting student-athletes in the college recruitment process.
• Ability to create an inclusive and supportive environment for a diverse student body.

Pay

$25 per hour.

Schedule

Seasonal position from February 9th to June 1st.
