Head Varsity Baseball Coach

About the Role

The Varsity Head Baseball Coach is responsible for organizing and supervising the total sports program, instructing athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training, and fostering character development, self-discipline, and team success. The coach must serve as a positive role model and maintain substantial knowledge of the sport while staying updated on new theories and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce all athletic policies approved by the Liberty Union-Thurston Schools' Board of Education.
• Adhere to and interpret system, state, and league regulations for staff.
• Follow proper administrative channels for requests or grievances.
• Attend required public, staff, and departmental meetings.
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for staff and design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings.
• Encourage professional growth among staff through clinic attendance and delegate specific duties.
• Maintain discipline, address grievances, and work to improve staff morale and cooperation.
• Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and tournament/event requirements.
• Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
• Coordinate with maintenance and school employees.
• Provide documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Ensure proper safeguards for equipment and facilities.
• Recommend policy, procedural, or method changes to the athletic director.
• Mentor student athletes to develop character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Monitor student athletes' grades and conduct.
• Provide guidance and safeguards during practices, games, and travel.
• Establish and enforce training rules and regulations for participants.
• Manage injury reports, medical attention, and emergency procedures.
• Complete and submit injury reports within 24 hours.
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
• Enforce discipline and due process procedures when necessary, including contacting parents for dropped or ineligible students.
• Assist athletes with college or advanced educational opportunities.
• Participate in budgeting for the next season and operate within budget appropriations.
• Recommend equipment guidelines and manage equipment inventory, issuing, storing, and reconditioning.
• Ensure proper marking, identification, and accountability of all equipment.
• Monitor equipment rooms and authorize access.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of facilities, including locker rooms and equipment.
• Instill respect for equipment and school property among players.
• Organize preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players, and guests.
• Promote the sport within and outside the school through recruiting and community engagement.
• Maintain positive public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
• Provide information to news media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results.

Requirements

• Previous successful coaching experience in baseball (or a major sport).
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of baseball and a commitment to staying updated on new theories and procedures.
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Strong role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.

Reports to: Athletic Director, with evaluations conducted in conjunction with building principals.

Supervises: High school assistant coaches and middle school coaches, in coordination with the athletic director and respective principals.
