About the role

Head Start Disabilities Advocate is responsible for providing support to families with children in Head Start programs who have disabilities. The role involves collaborating with families to ensure their children receive appropriate services and accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with families to understand their needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Ensure that children with disabilities receive necessary services and accommodations within the Head Start program.
  • Work closely with other professionals such as therapists, teachers, and social workers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Advocate for the rights of children with disabilities and their families within the Head Start program and broader community.
  • Conduct home visits and provide training to families on how to support their child’s development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and their families.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding special education and disability services.
  • Experience with data management and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
