Head Start Assistant Teacher

Location: 15380 K Road, Mayetta, KS 66509

Pay Range: $16.91–$19.45 per hour (offering rate varies within this range based on department budget and related experience/education).

About the Role

This position assures a supportive role for the teacher by ensuring the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children aged 3–5 through engaging lesson planning and intentional learning environments. The Assistant Teacher supports parent involvement in the development of child and family goals and objectives through case management. Additionally, this role provides support and assistance to the Early Childhood Special Education Program, when needed, to deliver collaborative services in the least restrictive environment. This is a full-time, grant-funded position contingent upon renewal of the grant.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher in creating and maintaining a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged 3–5.
• Assist with lesson planning and implementation to foster social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
• Engage in case management to support parent involvement in setting and achieving child and family goals.
• Provide collaborative support to the Early Childhood Special Education Program as needed.

Requirements

• Must be an enrolled Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribal Member (Indian Preference applies).
• 6 months to 2 years of similar or related experience in education or childcare.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or willingness to acquire within six months of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be willing to enroll in a Child Development Associates (CDA) credential course within 30 days of hire and obtain the CDA within 2 years of hire.
