Position Overview
Bausch + Lomb (NYSE/TSX: BLCO) is a leading global eye health company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the gift of sight. The Head of Technology, Digital Health Services is a founding role, reporting to the President, Digital Health Services. This role is critical to setting the technical direction for a new business unit focused on improving patient navigation through their care journey.
What You Will Do
Architecture and Technical Leadership
- Own the end-to-end technical architecture, including cloud infrastructure, AI/ML systems, data platform, security, and scalability
- Make decisions that balance speed to ship with long-term defensibility
- Select and manage the initial development partner
- Architect for EHR interoperability and HL7 FHIR compliance
- Design the patient-facing architecture with scalability in mind
Compliance and Regulatory Readiness
- Own data governance and HIPAA compliance infrastructure
- Build the compliance architecture with regulated software pathways in mind
- Ensure the platform is instrumented to generate real-world evidence and performance data
- Partner with B+L’s regulatory and legal resources to stay ahead of compliance requirements
- Own the post-market surveillance architecture
Product and Clinical
- Partner with the Head of Product on roadmap prioritization
- Ensure the product ships reliably and performs in real clinical environments
- Instrument the platform with telemetry and data capture
- Represent technical credibility externally
AI and Data
- Lead AI model selection, evaluation, fine-tuning, and deployment
- Build AI governance infrastructure
- Own the data platform strategy
Team and Culture
- Set the engineering culture
- Build the engineering team
What We Are Looking For
Required
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time in a senior technical leadership role
- Proven track record of taking a product from early-stage architecture to live, scaling production
- Genuine builder mentality
- Deep experience with AI/ML systems in production
- Strong command of modern cloud architecture
- Experience building in regulated or compliance-adjacent environments
- Comfortable with ambiguity and concentrated technical risk
- Strong communicator and genuine thought partner
Strongly Preferred
- Background in healthcare technology
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance, BAA frameworks, and healthcare data governance
- Hands-on experience with EHR interoperability and HL7 FHIR standards
- Understanding of regulated software pathways
- Experience with patient-facing digital health products
- Experience selecting, structuring, and managing external development partners or engineering firms
- Experience at a company in the digital health or eye care space
- Prior experience working alongside a product-led founding team in a startup or independent operating unit within a larger company
