Remote opportunity for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast-growing fintech startup that is redefining how small businesses manage cash flow.

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in a high-velocity, collaborative environment. You will architect, build, and scale the core systems that power our real-time financial platform, ensuring reliability, security, and performance at every layer. This is a hands-on role where you will write code daily, mentor junior engineers, and influence the technical direction of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services in Go and Python that handle millions of transactions per day.
  • Own the full software lifecycle: from requirements gathering and system design to implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and frontend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences.
  • Optimize database schemas, queries, and caching strategies to reduce latency and cost.
  • Implement robust security practices, including encryption, authentication, and compliance with financial regulations (PCI-DSS, SOC 2).
  • Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and ensure high availability of critical services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) and Python; experience with Java or Kotlin is a plus.
  • Deep expertise in designing and optimizing distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Solid understanding of security best practices, including OAuth, JWT, and TLS.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and logging (ELK stack).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Skills

  • System design and scalability
  • Performance optimization and debugging
  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
  • Agile methodologies and collaborative development

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% premiums covered for employees).
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Unlimited paid time off and flexible work hours.
  • Remote-first culture with optional co-working stipend.
  • Annual professional development budget for conferences, courses, or books.
  • Regular team offsites and virtual social events.

Pay

$150,000 – $200,000 base salary, plus equity and performance bonuses.

Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Flexible core hours with overlap for collaboration (e.g., 10 AM – 2 PM PT).
  • On-call rotation (1 week every 8 weeks).
