About the role

IonQ is seeking a Head of Product for its Quantum Interconnect Platform to serve as the primary bridge between our internal R&D/engineering organization and our sales and go-to-market teams. This person will own the product narrative for the Quantum Interconnect Platform, translating deep technical R&D into a clear, compelling product and market offering, engaging directly with customers, and driving early commercial traction. This is a hybrid product-and-market-facing role: part product manager, part technical storyteller, part early-stage specialty salesperson. You'll work closely with engineers to lead definition of the product roadmap, interface with customers and business unit leadership to shape how the product is positioned, sold, and grown, and ultimately close the loop by feeding this information back into the product roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Product Definition & Roadmap:
    • Create and maintain product materials for the Quantum Interconnect Platform
    • Interface directly with engineering teams to define the product roadmap, including adjacent technologies as needed
    • Translate technical capabilities into clear product requirements and external-facing content
  • Customer & Market Engagement:
    • Gather and synthesize customer feedback to inform product direction
    • Lead customer meetings to communicate the value and use cases of quantum memories, interconnects, and repeaters
    • Support early-stage lead generation by engaging directly with prospective customers
    • Manage external-facing technical content, including website copy, specification sheets, and case studies
  • Go-to-Market Development:
    • Partner with business unit leads to define quantum memory, interconnect, and repeater product offerings
    • Build go-to-market materials from introductory decks to case study deep-dives
    • Interface with customers and stakeholders including enterprise C-suite executives, government officials, and senior technical staff
    • Help establish product-market fit and drive early traction for the platform

Requirements

  • PhD or advanced technical degree in an engineering, physics, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in product management within quantum computing, networking, or related deep-tech industries
  • Direct experience in quantum computing or quantum networking product management
  • Background in management consulting or equivalent experience building high-quality, executive-ready presentation materials
  • Strong technical fluency, able to engage credibly with engineers, scientists, and physicists on roadmap and technical tradeoffs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, customer-facing narratives
  • Comfort operating in a customer-facing, early-stage capacity supporting sales teams. Direct sales experience is not required
  • High attention to detail and ability to produce polished, professional deliverables (decks, spec sheets, web content)
  • Self-driven; able to work independently with a high level of ownership. Collaborate horizontally across technical and program management teams to establish an efficient, high-performing product function within the organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of translating deep R&D into a defined, market-ready product offering
  • Experience building and delivering "first call" or early-stage GTM decks for technical products
  • Comfort working across both hardware and software domains on first-of-a-kind products
  • Prior experience in a newly-created role with significant scope for growth

Pay

Base salary range: $192,979—$276,722 USD. Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Matching 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO and paid holidays
  • Parental/adoption leave
  • Legal insurance
  • Home technology stipend
