About the role
At equipifi, we are seeking a Head of Legal to build the legal foundation that scales with us. This role will be responsible for owning the commercial contracting function end-to-end, being a true business partner to Sales and Partnerships, and laying the foundation for a legal function that can scale with the company.
Responsibilities
- Owning the contract playbook, standard form library, redline positions, vendor management framework, and outside counsel relationships
- Fielding questions, turning redlines fast, and giving clear answers that don't require a law degree to understand
- Embedding yourself as a genuine business partner, balancing warmth, professionalism, and knowledge in every interaction
- Reading and understanding complex documents such as MSAs and NDAs, knowing what actually matters
- Being fluent in the world we operate in, staying close enough to the BNPL and consumer lending landscape to provide clear, calibrated answers to compliance questions
- Explaining legal risk in ways anyone can understand
- Having enough fintech and lending fluency to hold your own in a regulatory conversation without phoning a friend
- Loving to make requests and business growth come to life, finding the path to yes and moving fast getting there
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of in-house legal experience at a fintech, payments, lending, or B2B SaaS company, with time spent as the first or second attorney in the building at a hyper-growth company
- Active bar admission in good standing
- EQ in spades and ability to work with anyone, balancing warmth, professionalism, and knowledge in every interaction
- The ability to read and understand complex documents such as MSAs and NDAs, knowing what actually matters
- Fintech and lending fluency to hold your own in a regulatory conversation without phoning a friend
- Able to explain legal risk in ways anyone can understand
