About the role

The Head of Engineering - Resource & Competency role at Airbus is a functional manager position reporting directly to the Regional Head of Resource & Competency. The role oversees all resources within the Mobile Engineering Department, focusing on staffing solutions, performance assessments, and skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staffing solutions by transitioning, recruiting, or reducing personnel, ensuring redundancy in critical competencies and skills.
  • Achieve significant individual, team, or group achievements by recognizing outstanding performance and addressing poor performance when necessary.
  • Lead annual performance assessments to ensure fairness across all project and domain teams.
  • Support long-term success by understanding project team, individual, and office needs, providing balanced staffing solutions, and fostering a high-functioning team based on trust.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse and skilled workforce through support of internships, early career development programs, and graduate programs.
  • Collaborate with the Mobile Engineering Leadership team on the annual promotion process and support the development of multi-skilling and component capabilities.
  • Ensure succession planning for leadership, supervisory, and critical technical positions.
  • Inform staff of technical updates and new processes, methods, and tools.
  • Coordinate with Talent Acquisition and HR to communicate resource needs and determine planning for resourcing events.
  • Support the preparation of Engineers for Technical Signatories within the organization.
  • Participate in the initial resource planning of work packages or activities and approve contractual agreements (Statement of Work).
  • Manage resource cost targets and staffing levels to meet business needs.
  • Work with Mobile Engineering Leadership team to allocate annual bonuses and merit increases, utilizing performance indicators while being fiscally aware of funding streams and impact to business operations.
  • Collaborate with Project Teams to ensure One Voice in front of our customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
  • 15 years of airframe engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and coordinate with many different functions.
  • High degree of self-confidence, independence, and self-starter/motivator.
  • Proven ability to operate at all levels below Senior Management.
  • Authorized to work in the US.

Qualifications

  • Onsite or remote: Onsite 100%
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of aerospace engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with project management and resource allocation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
