About the role
The Head of Engineering at PALO IT is responsible for ensuring that Gen-e2™ is rigorously applied across the Thailand engineering team. This includes setting and maintaining engineering standards, evaluating new AI tools, and mentoring engineers to improve their skills.
Responsibilities
- Own the quality and consistency of Gen-e2™ application across the Thailand engineering team, auditing adoption, identifying gaps, and working with teams to close them.
- Define and maintain the engineering standards playbook, covering prompt libraries, coding conventions, AI output validation, security guidelines, and quality gates.
- Continuously improve the Gen-e2™ methodology based on what you observe in delivery, what works and what does not.
- Evaluate new AI tools and practices that could meaningfully improve quality or velocity.
- Be the internal escalation point for hard technical problems, the person teams come to when they are stuck.
- Take direct technical leadership on selected projects, working alongside teams rather than managing from a distance.
- Identify and address technical risks and quality issues early, before they become delivery problems.
- Share learnings from your own projects with Hive Masters and Tech Leads working on others, and lift standards across the team.
- Mentor and develop Hive Masters and Tech Leads, building their technical depth, engineering judgement, and AI-native capability over time.
- Foster a culture of craftsmanship and continuous improvement, where engineers take pride in quality and learn from every project.
- Support performance conversations and career development for engineers, in partnership with the COO.
- Run engineering communities of practice, including knowledge-sharing sessions, technical retrospectives, and cross-team learning.
- Contribute to hiring decisions, helping to assess technical capability and generative AI aptitude in candidates.
- Support presales efforts, contributing to bid and proposal processes, including scoping, effort estimation, and solution validation.
- Review technical assumptions in RFP responses to ensure commitments are realistic and deliverable using Gen-e2™.
- Provide input on team composition and technical approach for proposed engagements.
Requirements
- 8 or more years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of hands-on technical leadership on complex delivery projects.
- Deep expertise in software engineering practices: architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, and DevOps.
- Experience in a consulting or client-delivery environment, working across multiple projects and technology stacks.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers, improving team capability over time.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, TDD, and iterative development.
- Experience participating in presales or bid processes, contributing to scoping, estimation, and technical proposals.
- Demonstrated daily use of AI tools in your engineering work.
- Hands-on, daily use of AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering for code generation, documentation, architecture review, and automated testing.
- Experience validating and governing GenAI outputs, including reviewing AI-generated code, identifying errors, and enforcing quality guardrails across a team.
- Good judgement about when AI output is fit for purpose, when it needs revision, and when to work without it, and the ability to teach that judgement to others.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), particularly around architecture and CI/CD in cloud-native environments.
- Breadth across multiple technology domains including mobile, DevOps, and full-stack.
- Experience working with AI/ML services in a delivery context, such as LLMs, RAG pipelines, or AI agents integrated into products.
- Familiarity with enterprise software patterns including micro-services, API design, and event-driven architecture.
