About the role

Carey Baptist College (Harrisdale Campus) is seeking a passionate and experienced educational leader to head our dynamic Mathematics Department. This full-time position commences in 2027 and reports to the Assistant Principal – Curriculum. The role focuses on accountability, leadership, collaboration, management, and communication, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and positive outcomes for both staff and students.

This opportunity allows you to provide strategic leadership across Mathematics while continuing to inspire students through engaging and purposeful classroom practice.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a clear vision for Mathematics that reflects the mission and strategic direction of the College.
• Oversee curriculum, assessment, and student data to ensure high-quality teaching and continuous improvement in student outcomes.
• Develop staff through professional dialogue, mentoring, and professional learning.
• Work closely with the leadership team to drive school improvement and ensure the effective operation and positive culture of the Department.
• Collaborate with staff, Heads of Department, and pastoral leaders to optimize student learning and holistic outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with Year Managers, staff, parents, and students to support positive learning outcomes.
• Prepare an annual budget and manage resources and expenses within that budget.
• Align departmental resources and expenditure with curriculum priorities and student learning needs.

Requirements

• Extensive teaching of Mathematics in a variety of school settings, including at Year 12 ATAR level.
• Strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum in Mathematics from 7 to 12.
• Use of ICT to enhance instructional practice.
• A comprehensive understanding of current educational issues.
• Ability to design, implement, and review high-quality assessment tasks.
• Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, maintaining a balanced perspective when making decisions.
• An active Christian faith and a desire to contribute to our open-enrolment Christian community.
