About Us

Motives Met is built on extensive research into what makes people thrive at work. At the center of our work is our proprietary 28 Motives Framework, which cuts through the clutter to uncover what actually drives people to be well and perform well at work. Our tools and services, including the Motives Met Human Needs Assessment™, Motives Workshop Experiences, and leadership programs, help leaders create workplaces where motives like innovation, belonging, purpose, growth, and appreciation are understood and met. We're a small, growing team with unique positioning, actionable tools, and proprietary research that is changing how leaders create happy, healthy, high-performing teams.

Role Mission

We're bootstrapped, and we've built the foundation. We've published our award-winning book, Work Life Well-Lived, keynoted at major conferences, and proven our impact with teams at organizations like General Motors and Sephora. Now we're ready to turn those assets into a repeatable revenue engine. We're looking for a senior, fractional, hands-on business development lead, ideally with 7+ years of B2B business development or sales experience. Ideally you've sold to senior HR, culture, and executive leaders before, bring relationships within that world, and genuinely love the art and energy of selling and growing something meaningful. This is a revenue-generation role first. You'll be actively opening doors, building relationships, generating pipeline, identifying strategic partnerships and referral channels, and helping shape how Motives Met goes to market as we grow. You'll be joining a small, ambitious team, and that's part of the opportunity. You'll work closely with CEO & Co-Founder Kelly Mackin and also our Chief People Strategist Nakisha Hicks.

Our Ideal Customer

Our clients include heads of HR, People & Culture; CEOs and founders; VPs and other senior organizational leaders; and sales leaders, including VPs of Sales and CROs, who own team performance and retention. Company size and industry vary. We work with everyone from 5-person teams to large organizations. What unifies our buyers is people or performance challenges we can help solve.

Pain Points We Solve

  • Managers who need better training and tools to become great leaders
  • One-size-fits-all leadership approaches that aren't working
  • Low motivation and engagement
  • Retention challenges
  • Culture and connection challenges
  • One-on-ones or "stay interviews" that aren't happening or are falling short
  • Leaders who want an offsite or retreat that creates meaningful connection and insight, not just another team-building day

Who We're Looking For

  • Strong at Warm and Cold Outreach – Has experience selling to and growing relationships with our ideal customer profile that can help accelerate early conversations. Just as importantly, you have a track record of generating your own B2B pipeline rather than relying solely on inbound leads or opportunities created by someone else.
  • A Natural Relationship Builder – Builds trust with senior leaders and represents Motives Met in a way that feels consultative, credible, and human, never transactional or overly sales-driven.
  • A Strong Communicator & Presenter – Can confidently lead prospect conversations, develop new business presentations, and communicate the value of Motives Met. You'll partner closely with the CEO on sales calls initially, with the opportunity to own more of the sales process independently over time.
  • Organized & Sales-Minded – Knows how to build, own, and use a CRM, stay on top of follow-ups, and consistently move opportunities forward.
  • Strategic AND Hands-On – Can see the bigger growth opportunities, including referral structures and partnerships we should explore, while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and do the outreach, follow-up, relationship building, and experimentation required to make them happen.
  • Passionate About What We're Building – Believes in our mission of creating better leaders and workplaces and can authentically get others excited about it too. As we scale, there's an opportunity, if desired, to take on a bigger leadership role and have a meaningful influence on our strategy, growth, and future business development function.

What You're Growing

We have multiple ways to help organizations, which gives our business development lead different entry points depending on the challenge a client is trying to solve.

Role Structure

This is a fractional, results-driven opportunity with a base retainer + significant commission on revenue generated. We care much more about results than hours logged. This role is designed for someone who wants flexibility, autonomy, and meaningful upside tied directly to the business they help create. For the right person and strong long-term fit, there is also the potential for the role to grow in scope, compensation, and responsibility over time, including a potential equity conversation.

What Success Looks Like – KPIs (first 60 days)

  • 2-3 qualified new business meetings generated per week
  • 1–2 new clients closed or in late-stage decision conversations
  • A healthy pipeline of additional qualified opportunities or partnerships actively moving toward a decision
  • A CRM and sales process that is organized, current, and giving us clear visibility into pipeline and next steps
  • Clear learnings around which audiences, messages, offers, and outreach channels are generating the strongest results

We know B2B sales cycles vary, so we'll look at the full picture at our 60-day checkpoint.
