About the Role

The Head of Binding, Wholesure is responsible for the leadership, growth, profitability, and operational performance of Wholesure's Binding business. This role drives profitable revenue growth, expands carrier and underwriting relationships, develops high-performing teams, and delivers exceptional service to retail agency partners. Reporting to the Managing Director, Wholesure, the Head of Binding serves as the senior leader for the Binding business, partnering closely with executive leadership to execute strategic priorities while overseeing day-to-day management of underwriting, production, operations, and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Business Leadership
    • Lead the overall performance and strategic direction of the Wholesure Binding business.
    • Develop and execute business plans that drive sustainable, profitable growth.
    • Identify opportunities to expand products, markets, carrier partnerships, and distribution capabilities.
    • Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and exceptional client service.
  • Financial Performance
    • Own the Binding business profit and loss performance.
    • Develop annual operating plans, budgets, and financial forecasts.
    • Monitor and improve key business metrics, including revenue and premium growth, EBITDA contribution, underwriting profitability, hit ratios and retention, producer productivity, and operational efficiency.
    • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through disciplined underwriting and operational excellence.
  • Carrier & Market Relationships
    • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with insurance carriers, MGAs, and underwriting partners.
    • Negotiate, maintain, and expand binding authority agreements.
    • Partner with carriers to improve portfolio performance, profitability, and market capacity.
    • Evaluate and secure new carrier relationships that support business growth.
  • Sales & Production Leadership
    • Partner with production leadership to drive profitable new business growth.
    • Develop strategies to increase premium volume while maintaining underwriting discipline.
    • Support recruitment, retention, and development of top underwriting and production talent.
    • Collaborate with retail distribution partners to maximize cross-selling opportunities.
  • Underwriting Excellence
    • Establish and reinforce underwriting standards and governance across the Binding platform.
    • Monitor portfolio performance, carrier profitability, and loss ratio trends.
    • Ensure compliance with carrier guidelines, delegated authority agreements, and regulatory requirements.
    • Promote data-driven underwriting decisions and portfolio management.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, scalability, and customer experience.
    • Partner with Operations, Claims, Finance, Compliance, Legal, and Technology to optimize business performance.
    • Champion technology adoption and automation initiatives that improve productivity.
  • Talent Leadership
    • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team of underwriting and operational leaders.
    • Establish clear performance expectations aligned with business objectives.
    • Build succession plans and leadership capability across the organization.
    • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within wholesale insurance, delegated authority, MGA, or specialty insurance.
  • Significant experience leading Binding operations.
  • Demonstrated P&L management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance products.
  • Proven experience building and managing carrier relationships and negotiating binding authority agreements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPCU, AU, ARM, or similar professional designation.
  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Experience leading business transformation, technology initiatives, or acquisitions.
